The Scottish Sun believes Weir will put pen to paper on a new deal next week and end speculation that the centre-half could be set for a move down south.
The 38-year-old had wanted to speak to his Lancashire-based family before deciding on his future. And they appear happy to continue the arrangement which has been in place since Weir joined Rangers in January 2007.
Walter Smith clearly sees the veteran defender playing a significant role next year, having featured an incredible 61 times this season.

The 30-year-old was told by Ibrox boss Walter Smith that he can leave on a free transfer this summer after the Scottish Cup final.
However, with newly promoted Premiership clubs’ top-flight shelf life often a one season span, Hemdani is understood to be holding out for the security of a more mid-table Premiership option.

He, along with Hemdani and Buffel has been informed he can leave for free despite the player wanting to stay and fight for his place.
Comment:
This makes no sense to me what so ever and Walter Smith should be accountable to the fans over player transfers. It’s my opinion that the club manager should be making official statements when a player leaves the club stating why they are no longer part of his plans.
I would like to know his reasoning as to an outsider this makes no sense. Gow looked a decent player in the few appearances he made. So why is he surplus to requirements?
